Rules, controls and help for Snake

Start Snake by looking at the playing area and its controls. Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Read the objective before making your first input. Look at what changes after your first action.

Bring this focus to a round

Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules. Make the next step deliberately.

What you are aiming for

Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. The example below illustrates a decision.

Making your moves

  1. Press Play to start the movement.
  2. Turn with arrow keys, swipes or the on-screen direction buttons.
  3. Each apple adds ten points and makes the snake longer.
  4. Pause when needed or start a new round.

Controls

Keyboard arrows, swipe gestures or the four direction buttons. Play / pause controls the movement. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Check any mode label before starting.

Work through an example

When moving right, you may turn up or down, but cannot turn immediately left into your own neck. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Check the stated objective.

Where a round can go wrong

The snake continues moving between inputs. Plan a route with space to turn. Check the rule before repeating the action. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
