Making your first moves in Star Battle

Read the aim of Star Battle, then make your first move. Place one star in each row, column and region, with no touching stars even diagonally. Use the example below to understand a decision. Make your first input carefully and watch the result. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Solve ten 6×6 puzzles with one star in every row, column and region. These boards use the one-star rule.

A focus for your next round

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Use the example to check your reasoning.

What the game asks you to do

Place one star in each row, column and region, with no touching stars even diagonally. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.

  2. Respect fixed starter stars.
  3. Check rows, columns and coloured regions.
  4. Check puzzle verifies the final arrangement.

Making selections and moves

Click or tap squares or graph edges. Number boards include a digit pad. Undo reverses the previous change; Check puzzle validates the solution. Use the control method described here for this activity. Contact us with the game and device if a control does not respond.

Follow the example

A placed star rules out all eight neighbouring squares. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Look for the relevant detail.

Notice this detail

Different rows do not make diagonal neighbours legal. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention.
