Getting started with Samurai Sudoku

Take a moment with Samurai Sudoku before moving to another game. Complete five overlapping Sudoku boards. Every shared cell must satisfy both boards that use it. Use the example below to understand a decision. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

This collection contains 4 puzzles. Progress is saved in this browser. The same puzzle can appear again; the collection is not labelled with calibrated difficulty levels.

Give this approach a try

Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal. Refer to the controls when needed.

Understand the aim

Complete five overlapping Sudoku boards. Every shared cell must satisfy both boards that use it. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

Start here and follow along

  1. Select an editable cell.
  2. Enter a value using the keypad or keyboard; Notes stores candidates.
  3. Read the region, cage, arrow or outside clues alongside the normal constraints.
  4. Check entries verifies the completed board; Undo reverses your last input.
  5. New puzzle selects another included puzzle.

Choosing and moving on screen

Click or tap cells and the digit pad. Use Notes, Undo and Reveal selected. Large boards scroll inside the game. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Use the visible help when you are unsure of the next input.

An example to follow

One value entered in an overlap serves two boards, so check the corresponding rows, columns and boxes of both. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Read the matching step again.

Where a round can go wrong

A full board must obey every extra rule. Reveal supplies assistance; it is not an earned deduction. Check the rule before repeating the action. Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board.
