Know the goal in Sokoban

Sokoban gives you a focused activity to play in your browser. Push every crate onto a target. Look at what changes after your first action. Read the objective before making your first input. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Push two crates onto their targets in compact 7×7 rooms. The starting layouts can be solved; an unhelpful push may still trap a crate.

Take a closer look while playing

When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round. Keep the objective visible.

The objective of a round

Push every crate onto a target. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.

Follow these playing steps

  1. Move through empty floor.
  2. Push one crate into empty space.
  3. Never pull or push two at once.
  4. Undo a deadlock and continue.

Getting comfortable with the controls

Arrow keys or direction buttons. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Check any mode label before starting.

An example to follow

A crate in a non-target corner cannot be recovered by pulling. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Notice the change in the playing area.

One detail worth checking
